Acolytes

St Simon Peter Parish currently have fifteen active, commissioned acolytes and two Senior Ministers.
An Acolyte is instituted for his lifetime in the Diocese of Perth.  Acolytes are required to recommit to serve every five years and are required to have a current Working with Children card.

Acolytes provide their services to the priest at weekday masses and all weekend masses.  Acolytes volunteer to serve at special services for the Catholic schools in our parish, Confirmation and healing Masses. They are also available to take Holy Communion to the sick, when required.

In our parish, the acolytes role is to prepare everything necessary for the celebration of Mass and to assist the priest by serving at Mass and with distribution of Holy Communion. The Acolyte is also responsible for the cleaning and securing of the sacred vessels used at the Mass.

Training courses for becoming an Acolyte are held bi-annually by the Diocesan Liturgy office. A prospective Acolyte can only be nominated by the parish priest and it is a pre-requisite that they serve as a Senior Altar Minister for 3 months prior to commissioning.
