Baptism

Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation.

In the waters of Baptism, we are welcomed into the Church as children of God and called to live as followers of Christ. Anointed by the Holy Spirit, we are cleansed from sin and begin a new life in Christ.

Baptism for school children 7 years and below

Baptisms are usually celebrated at 11:30am on the 2nd and 3rd Sunday of each month.

Requirements for a Catholic Baptism

  1. Parental Eligibility
    • At least one parent must be a practising Catholic.
    • Parents should be willing to raise the child in the Catholic faith.
  1. Godparents (Sponsors)
    • At least one godparent must be a practising, Confirmed Catholic.
    • A minimum of two godparents is preferred (one male, one female if possible).
    • Godparents must be at least 16 years old and not be the child’s parents.
  1. Baptismal Preparation
    • Parents (and godparents) are required to attend a Baptism Information Evening before the Baptism.
    • These sessions are typically held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00pm and bookings are required.
  1. Documentation
    • A completed Baptism Enrolment Form.
    • Current Copies of the Godparents Baptism Certificates.
  1. Booking
    • Baptisms should be booked in advance, through the Parish Office, at least 2 months before the desired date.                   
  1. Sacramental Offering
    • It is customary to offer a donation for the Priest and the Church on the day of Baptism.
