Bruce Rock / Merredin Road Trip

Leaving 8am on Saturday 5th October, 37 Parishioners and Fr Francis set off on a luxury coach to the wheatbelt towns of Merredin and Bruce Rock.
Our first stop was the historical town of York 12okm east of Ocean Reef where we stopped for a cuppa and morning tea, then on to Kokerbin Rock, (claimed to be the 3rd largest monolith in Australia) our distination for our picnic lunch and bush walk. The flies were very welcoming and the sun shone through the rain clouds! Many adventured around the base of the rock but only 2, Marco and Dino managed to climb to the summit where some of these scenic photos were taken! We did not see many wildflowers due to the scarce rainfall in these areas!
From there we drove on to Merredin where we could all book into our accomodations and refresh for our 35min trip to the Recreation Centre in Bruce Rock for drinks and a BBQ with the local parishioners!
They put on a feast of salads and sweets and prepared and cooked our meat which was delicious and came from the local butchers.
The next morning saw us packed up and ready to drive back to Bruce Rock for 10am Mass with Fr Darek who was our Parish Priest in Ocean Reef Parish for 6 years. After Mass the parishioners of Bruce Rock put on a scrumptous brunch and made us feel most welcome!
Before heading back to Ocean Reef we stopped at the Foss' family farm to look at their impressive machinary and learn a little about life on the farm in the wheatbelt!
We returned from our trip, tired but happy after a full weekend with good memories of our travels in the country!
