25 Years of St Simon Peter Parish 1986 – 2011

 

1985     Fr. Simon Carson appointed as founding Parish Priest. His Presbytery was located at 18 Tornado Road Crescent Ocean Reef,

1986     First Parish Mass at Prendiville College which was built in 1985 ; First Parish Council Meeting,

1987     First AGM of Parish ; Parish Care Group and Magellan established,

1988     Opening of St Simon Peter Catholic Primary School ; First Principal – Sr. Breda O’Reilly of Mercy Sisters ; Masses held at St Simon Peter Catholic Primary School Year 1 /2 classrooms,

1989     Youth Group established ; Dinner Dance at Irish Club ; Quiz Night,

1990     Youth Group continues in strength,

1991     Lenten Renewal of Faith and RCIA programmes commenced,

1992     Work on new church building plans commenced ; Piety Stall,

1993     Tireless effort of all hardworking parishioners saw the opening of St Simon Peter Parish Church, Parish Centre and Presbytery by Archbishop Barry James Hickey on the 19th of December,

1994     Adult Education Committee formed ; Playgroup and Antioch established : Building and Maintenance Committee established. A year of many Adult Education workshops presented Fashion Parade ; Quiz Night ; Parish Dance and Lamington Drive,

1995     Deacon Steven Casey appointed as Assistant followed by Fr. Nathan ; St Vincent de Paul Conference grows ; Craft and Friendship Society established ; Currambine Catholic Primary School established - First Principal Sue Groves,

1996     Introduction to Communion under both species commenced ; Commissioning of 43 Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist,

1997     Carols by Candlelight Celebrations and Seniors Christmas Party commenced in the Parish ; Fr. Gregory D’Almeida joins as Assistant Priest,

1998     Fr. Simon Carson’s Silver Jubilee to the Priesthood - Bishop Robert Healy celebrant at Mass ; Farewell for Fr. Simon Carson in September,

1999     Fr Richard Rutkausas appointed Parish Priest with Fr. Mirek Woznica as Assistant Priest ;
Combined Parish and Schools Spring Affair Fundraiser ; World Youth Day Sponsorship program ; 70’s Night Dinner Dance ; Former parishioner Wayne Bendotti ordained to the Priesthood,

2000     Holy Spirit Chapel in Joondalup opened. Fr Kevin Cronin first Priest ; Parish Theatre Play ‘Murder in the Music Hall’,

2001     Society of the Divine Saviour established in the Parish with Fr Bronislaw Pietrusewisz SDS as first Parish Priest ; Fr Phong Nguyen appointed Assistant Priest,

2002     Parish Office opened. Children’s Masses begun. Volunteers Mass an BBQ’s ; Talent Quest / Karaoke ; Quiz Night,

2003     Tenth Anniversary of St Simon Peter Catholic Church ; Mass celebrated by Archbishop Hickey ; A year of monthly social/community functions ; Pilgrimage to Bullsbrook ; Blessing of Pets ; International Night ; Craft Fair ; Parish Spring Ball 1920’s Theme ; Parish Play – ‘No Greater Love’ written by Parishioner Gerald Searle and music by Parish music group ‘InSpiritUs’ ; First stained glass windows of ‘Mary and John at the foot of the Cross’ installed,

2004     Fr. Adam Babinski SDS joined as Assistant Priest ; Adult Education Talks - Fr. Dieter ; Formation of Evangelisation Committee ; Purchase of Church computer to display Mass parts and hymns through Easyworship program ; Theatre Restaurant Play ’A Nuns Tale’ and ‘Prince’s Pursuit’,

2005     Two Youth from Parish go on Pilgrimage to Cologne for World Youth Day ; Bishop Sproxton led Corpus Christi Procession ; New Norcia Pilgrimage,

2006     Father Roman Wroblewski SDS joined as Assistant Priest. ; Palm Sunday Procession with donkey ; Parish pilgrimage to York ; 8 Stained Glass Windows depicting the life of St Peter installed ; Second Parish Play – ‘Let the Children Be’ ; Gov’t. Census record our parish as largest in WA,

2007     Fr Richard Sadowski SDS appointed PP ; Fr Dariusz Krzysztalowicz SDS joined as Assistant Priest ; Stained glass window of Holy Spirit installed,

2008     26 Youth from Parish pilgrimage to WYD in Sydney ; Fundraising Events – Parish Fete ; Quiz Night ; Bingo Night ; Dinner Dance ; Room for Flowers and Storage built as extension at the back of the Church ; Stained Glass Windows depicting the four evangelists installed,

2009     Third Parish Play ‘The Three Marys’ presented in Prendiville Auditorium with involvement by Whitfords and Wanneroo Parishes; Parish Mission - Fr. Gilbert Carlo,

2010     Fr Dariusz Krzysztalowicz SDS appointed Parish Priest ; Fr Zygmunt Smigowski SDS joined as Assistant Priest ; Extended Eucharistic Adoration offered five days a week ; New Mary Statue placed in Mary Chapel ; New Sound System installed ; New colour format for Parish Newsletter ; New overhead fans installed ; Retreat presented by ‘The Catholic Guy’,

2011     25th Jubilee of St Simon Peter Parish ; Lenten Retreat presented by Fr Roman Wroblewski ; Implementation of New Parish Based Sacramental Programme, Fran Beale appointed as co-ordinator ; Anniversary Mass on 19th June at 10am - presided by Archbishop Barry James Hickey includes blessing of newly built Eucharistic Adoration Chapel and blessing of newly installed Stained Glass Windows of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary.
